Nutrition Action Names Fruitfull® Frozen Fruit Bars “Best Bites”
Happy & Healthy’s all-natural frozen fruit bars honored by CSPI for
second year in a row
Washington,
D.C., June 2007
– The Center for Science in the Public Interest has named Happy & Healthy
Products’ Fruitfull® bars “Best Bites” in the June 2007 issue of
their Nutrition Action Healthletter. The all-natural frozen fruit
bars took top honors in three categories: Ice Cream Bars, Fruit & Cream
Bars, and Fruit Bars.
In the competitive Ice Cream Bar division of the
brand-name rating, Happy & Healthy’s Fruitfull® Vanilla Yogurt
bar was the highest rated product. Fruitfull® Strawberry Cream and
the Fruitfull® Strawberry Juice bars earned “Best Bite” in the Fruit
& Cream Bar and Fruit Bar categories, respectively.
Pointing out that many bars
in the Fruit & Cream Bar category “may be too sweet for many palates, CSPI
recommends that consumers “Try Fruitfull® Strawberry Cream, which
strikes the perfect balance between fruity and creamy.”
When CSPI speaks, the
national media listen. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey called Nutrition
Action Healthletter “the master-mind critic that sounded the food
alarms.” Indeed, the frozen novelty rating also names many products “Worst
Bites” because they have at least 6 grams of bad fat.
“Best Bites” must meet
strict criteria. All products named “Best Bites” had to be 150 calories or
less and free of the poorly tested artificial sweetener acesulfame
potassium. “Best Bites” fruit bars have no bad fat and contain fruit
or juice as the first or second ingredient (but not apple, grape, or pear
juice, which are “nutritional weaklings”).
This is not
the first time Fruitfull® has earned CSPI’s top honor. In last year’s
frozen novelty brand-name rating, CSPI singled Happy & Healthy products out
for praise, saying that “Only a few brands like Fruitfull® have fruit
or juice as the first or second ingredient.” |
